KF2 Weapon Skin Tutorial : Pattern Based

Step-by-step guide

  1. Follow the steps here to get your material initialized. KF2 Weapon Skin Creation: Getting Started
  2. Open your material and set the Switch_UsePattern to true (must be checked on the right and left check boxes.
  3. Author a new Pattern Mask Texture and set it to the PatternMask parameter
  4. Adjust Color, PaintArea, PaintSpecular/Gloss and PatternArea parameters to achieve the look of your pattern skin.
  5. Adjust PatternScale, Rotation and Offset parameters to further achieve the look of your skin.
  6. If you want to base your pattern of the weapon's original Uv's you may not want to offset, scale or rotate your pattern. You can get original weapon Uv templates here: KF2 Weapon UV Template Download
  7. Optionally set the switch Switch_UseAnodizedEffect if you want an anodized metal look
  8. Optionally select Switch_PatternTriPlanarUvs if you want a spraypainted stencil look.
  9. Set your wear parameters to add some battle wear to your weapon.
  10.  Optionally select Switch_WearLikeSprayPaint if you want a spraypainted worn look. 
  11. Optionally select Switch_UsePatternAlphaGloss if your pattern has a grey scale alpha to serve as a specular exponent (gloss) map.
